meet the Midwives
Emmy Nadav, CPM, LM
Emmy Nadav (she/her) is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and a Licensed Midwife (LM) in the state of Vermont.
Emmy fell in love with the raw and sacred experience of birth after witnessing her sister-in-law’s home birth in 2015. She began attending births as a doula soon after and graduated from Birthwise Midwifery School in 2021. During her midwifery training, she attended over 100 births in three different home birth practices, learning from multiple midwives and families in the process. She has served diverse communities, including queer and trans folks, Orthodox Jews, Amish and Mennonite communities and everyone in between. Her experiences cultivated a foundation of faith and trust in the body’s innate ability to grow, birth and nurture a baby without the need for medical interventions, as well as solidified a deep respect for one’s personal autonomy.
Emmy lives in Plainfield with her partner, toddler and dog. She is expecting her second baby in September 2024.

our philosophy
We believe that people are the experts in their own bodies and experiences, and we are committed to supporting people in their innate wisdom to heal and grow. We focus on reproductive and generative health, preconception care, pregnancy, home birth and postpartum care. We believe that pregnancy and birth are normal, healthy processes for the human body. Behind us is the wisdom and power of centuries of humans who have given birth, cared for their young and taken care of their bodies. For low-risk individuals, out of hospital birth is as safe as hospital birth and uses less medical intervention. We use a combination of traditional practices and evidence-based medical and scientific practices to provide holistic, empowering and nourishing care.
By developing a relationship built on trust, mutual respect, dignity and connection, we work with clients to address their physical and emotional needs by meeting them where they are at and supporting them in continued health and well-being. We use a somatic and trauma-centered approach and sex and body positive framework. We are committed to accessible, culturally responsive and appropriate care for all people. We are committed to centering those most impacted by oppression and trauma.
We approach care as a partnership. Throughout care we engage in shared decision-making processes. Throughout your care, there will be options for testing, screenings and treatments. We are responsible for offering you evidence-based information and clinical expertise but also to uplift and uphold your personal autonomy. It is your responsibility to ask questions, do research and reflect on your values, beliefs and intuition. In this way, bringing together the evidence, our clinical experience and your desires, you can make truly informed choices about your care. We will guide each client through their individual choices for care, and always follow the parameters outlined in the Vermont State protocols for midwives.
Gratitude
We are humbled to exist along the lineages of care givers and midwives that came before us and will come after us. We became midwives and care workers because of the guidance, care and support that wind around us and through us. We want to express our gratitude to the people, places, experiences and histories that have ushered us along our journey. To our teachers, mentors and colleagues for passing on their knowledge and supporting us as we continue to grow. To the loved ones, animals, plants, books, poems, ideas and experiences that helped shape us into who we are. To the strength of our clients, their babies and families - and their willingness to let us witness their journeys. To the midwives and healers who have come before us, who have held women and birthing people for millennia, who were hunted and burned for practicing their healing work. To the indigenous, immigrant and Granny midwives on this continent whose practices and wisdom were systemically and violently persecuted and erased by the racist, industrialized medical system. We feel you here with us, we honor your legacies and your descendants. To the trees and the sun, the water and earth that grounds and supports us all as we find our way. To our loved ones who support us in this work, when we leave in a mad dash, change plans, miss holidays, and come home weary and in need of rest. May we honor all of you and strive to reciprocate through our care and love, our attention and gratitude. Thank you.
